Hey Guys / Comic Buyer's Guide Article

Hey everybody!
Sorry about the sparcity of posts as of late. I'm getting married next Saturday, so I've been more than a little busy. Hopefully between now and then I'll be able to give the blog a proper update with eBay data and some more info on 30 and 35 centers. If you haven't picked up the newest issue of Comic Buyer's Guide (October Cover date), it features an article about variant collecting. The STL Comics site is plugged (along with the 30 cent gallery) and James and Rog are mentioned. If you want to see more about it go here.
Also, I picked up a purchase of about 40 35 cent variants earlier today. No Westerns/War/Hanna-Barbarra's, but they are pretty nice. E-mail me or post here is you want me to see if I've got something you need.
Lastly, thanks for all of your patience and hopefully the updates will be a little more frequent. If you have any ideas or suggestions for content, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at veronesepk@gmail.com . Thanks! - Keith

Update Coming Tommorow

Hey everybody,
I'll have an eBay update going up tommorow that will cover the rest of June. I also want to put a30 an 35 cent variant checklist up on the site (a printable one), but I'm not sure of the format I want to use. Does anybody have any suggestions of what would be most useful to them? Thanks! - Keith

Tuscaloosa 35 cent variants

Does anybody have any of these? I live in Birmingham, but I have yet to get a single one of these in my collection (these have a one inch band of color down the middle in green, red, yellow, black, and maybe blue).
I should have an eBay sale update posted shortly. Thanks! - Keith

Aah. A Beautiful Kirby cover. Definitely my favorite of this weekend's finds. It is a Memphis variant, and it has one blue band on the top near the left spine. Posted by Hello

Hi- This one is also Memphis variant. It has 2 black bands on the top near the left spine. - Keith Posted by Hello

Update Coming Soon

Hi Everybody,

Contrary to popular belief, I'm not dead, I've just been busy transfering to grad school and doing stuff for my upcoming wedding. I'll be posting some scans of some 35 cent variants I just got in along with an eBay update in the next day or so. - Keith

Hey everybody- I've got a quick update. I picked this up from a friend of mine that owns a store in Birmingham today in a cash/trade deal. I think it was pretty fair for both of us. It has a thin red spray line on the top left of the book, so that would designate that it came from Memphis, Tn. I kinda thought offhand it would be a Tuscaloosa book just because of the region I bought it in, but it wasn't. Being as somebody from the area around Tuscaloosa (and a grad student at the University of Alabama-Birmingham), I think those are especially neat.
If anybody has an X-men #105 or #107 variant (regardless of region) they want to sell/trade - drop me an e-mail at veronesepk@gmail.com . Posted by Hello

Do you know where your 35 cent variants came from?!?!

Hi everybody,
Sorry about the delay in the new update - but its a biggie that will hopefully serve to be very helpful for everybody. Cosmic-spider-man, DarthDiesel and some of their buddies on the CGC message board (check out my handy link on the left to go there) came up with a way to determine what area your 35 cent variants come from depending on the distribution mark made on the top of the book. I have no connection to this work other than receiving permission to display it here. Their discovery is really cool. They also worked out a table that tells you the distribution timespan of the sbooks. Check out the picture on the top for a quick look at the differences and market distribution, and if you would like to read more, check out the original thread here. Wow, that last sentence really made me fell like Lavar Burton. If you need a larger version of the image, it can be found here.
If, however, you would like the cliff notes version, the distribution mark/distribution area connection is:

  • Memphis, Tn issues: They have either one or two thin color marks on the top left edge in red, black, blue, & green.
  • Toledo, Oh issues: They have the whole tops sprayed with color, albeit sometimes faintly, in green, yellow, and blue.
  • Tuscaloosa, Al issues (rammer, jammer, yellowhammer - oh, wait- not here): These appear to have a one inch band of color down the middle in green, red, yellow, black, and maybe blue.
  • Wilmington, Nc issues: No distribtion marks are found on these.
  • Unknown 5th area issues: Some issues have been found with the whole top sprayed in red, but they do not appear to fit in the Toledo group.

Once again, thanks to everyone who worked on this, and I hope this is of some help. I should hopefully posting something nice tommorow (and I think a couple of you know what I'm talking about). Until then, I'm still Keith.

Quickie Post

Hey guys,
I don't have much time (my fiance's in town), but I picked up a Fantastic Four #171 30 cent variant in VF for $20. I probably overpaid a little for a 3 on the scarcity index, but I figured I couldn't go wrong with an FF in VF. Besides, I need it (and like a 100 more 30 centers :) ) for the run.
There should be some pretty big posts tommorow- so check back again. If you have any suggestions for the site, e-mail me at veronesepk@gmail.com or post a comment here.

Star Wars 2-4 Variants

Anybody else think we'll see a few of these pop up (either inadvertantly or advertantly) in the next few weeks as Episode 3 nears? I sure hope so... :) - Keith
